Mechanical seals with metal bellows are high-tech devices that are widely used in various industries due to their reliability, durability and ability to operate in difficult conditions.
Under extreme temperature conditions (-117°C to 425°C / 800°F), the dynamic rubber elements of mechanical seals will be subject to premature aging. To solve this problem, mechanical seals with a welded metal bellows are used. Seals with a metal bellows do not require the use of additional springs - the metal bellows itself simultaneously transmits the torque to the rotating ring and at the same time presses this ring against the stationary one.

The design of a welded metal bellows seal is usually balanced, so the seal can operate at pressures up to 7 MPa (depending also on the choice of thickness and number of layers of the wave plate). These seals are independent of the direction of rotation of the shaft.

Areas of application include areas with difficult operating conditions: hot hydrocarbons, aqueous solutions, chemical and petrochemical industries, heat transfer fluids, alkalis, acids.
However, the cost of manufacturing these mechanical seals is relatively high, but this is fully offset by the increased service life compared to a conventional seal.
