Viton rubber (fluoroelastomer)

Viton, FKM, FPM rubber is DuPont's brand of fluoroelastomer, Viton is considered the best fluoroelastomer available today. On the bassis of fluoroelastomer, a rubber compound is made, from which the part is then made. In accordance with various standardization systems, the phrase "fluoroelastomer" is denoted by various abbreviations, but the meaning of this and the material itself do not change.

The abbreviation FPM - in accordance with the instructions of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the abbreviation FKM - in accordance with the designation adopted by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). That is, FPM is the international name and FKM is the American name for the same material. In Russia, the abbreviation is accepted - FK.

FPM / FKM / VITON (Fluoro rubber) has high chemical resistance, as well as resistance to elevated temperatures. It has excellent mechanical and physical characteristics, the content of fluorine in the rubber compound ensures the incombustibility of this material. Fluoroelastomers have low gas transmission and minimal weight loss when operating in vacuum.

Resistant to:
Lack of resistance:
  • aggressive chemical compounds;
  • oils and mineral greases also with alloying additives;
  • aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons;
  • inflammable hydraulic fluids based on phosphoric esters and chlorinated hydrocarbons (HSC);
  • synthetic oils for aircraft engines;
  • sea and brackish water;
  • hair shampoos;
  • milk, whey;
  • beer, juice;
  • pulp.
  • glycol-based brake fluids;
  • organic acids, such as octic and formic;
  • flux acid;
  • chlorosulfonic acid;
  • ketones (acetone, acetophenone);
  • hot water vapor;
  • ammonia, amines;
  • polar solvents (acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, dioxane);
  • Fluoroelastomer seals are not recommended for R134a freon!
